Marquis de Sade
It is a sobering time in the history of our nation as Christians continue to walk the road of syncretism with a pagan culture that hates the very essence of Gods law. Never in the history of our nation has there been a clearer distinction between good and evil as the perversion of our culture and the disobedience to law becomes ever apparent.
As Christians we must not only live by the laws of God, we must also uncompromisingly show a clear distinction between Gods law and the hatred of His law in our society. Not only must we stand against the anarchist views of the culture in which we live, we must realize how we can better emphasize the truth that we have been called to stand on. As we do this, we will begin to see that much of what shapes our culture, and much of what we lack as modern Christians, is found in a sadistic and sweeping distinction between Gods law and the choices that are socially acceptable.
A perfect example of what Christianity today needs to be aware of can be found in the life of Marquis de Sade. Sade is one of the most honest unregenerate pagans that history has given us. The more the life of Sade is studied the more apparent it becomes that he was true to himself – he was honest about his nature.
Sade believed that man could do as he pleased and the more vulgar and gruesome a man acted upon his impulses, the more a man was being true to his own nature. With the exception of a few other scholars of his day, Sade was, and still is today, one of the most honest examples of what paganism should be in its ultimate unregenerate form. His sinful habits were the norm for many in France at that time, and to many, his crimes were not what he did, but the fact that he openly spoke and promoted his actions.
Like the unregenerate of the French Revolutions, and the unregenerate of our day, The majority of pagans are unwilling to admit that their very nature disregards the law order of God, Sade was not only willing to admit his hatred for Gods law, he promoted the ultimate deride of Gods law by hating his own humanity as it was governed under the authority of Gods Law and creation order. He believed in both the destruction of law and the destruction of humanity As he exhibited and explained in his mutilation of prostitutes and desire to kill the unborn.
Again, it is important to understand that many in France did not disagree with Sade, they only wanted to silence him from speaking so bolding about acting on the impulses of his nature. Through more politically correct and socially acceptable ways of living, many in France could remain hushed from the harsh reality of Gods governing law over them, and continue to live in an ever chaotic and evolving culture. Sade was unwilling to live in this false reality and demanded complete and utter revolt against the law order of God. For his time, Sade was the equivalent of a liberal that was completely honest with himself and with those around him.
The liberals of our day can learn a great lesson from Sade: by living an honest life to their own nature and realizing that they have neither desire nor ability to act in obedience to the law of God or share in the blessing or gift of regeneration in Christ Jesus – unless it is granted to them by almighty God. Sade was honest with himself, and realized that his nature was nothing more than a sickening deadness of sinful actions compiled into an existence of disobedience to the one who created him, and he openly lived in his constant bondage.
Sade not only showed that he was more willing than most of the unregenerate to proclaim his pagan actions, in many ways, he showed that he was more honest to his nature than the majority of Christians are to their redeemed nature.
As Christians we often forget that we have nothing in common with the unregenerate and that we just as Sade did in his fallen nature must clearly show that we desire nothing to do with the evils of the unregenerate nature of man.
Much like the time of the French Revolution, Christians today take the politically correct and socially acceptable view by simply masking the realities that we face as a nation. Much like Sade, sodomites walk the steps of Massachusetts courthouses openly proclaim their rights to blaspheme the sanctity of marriage, and we as Christians response by casting our vote for politicians that take socially acceptable and politically appealing middle-ground stands, in the hope that we can still maintain a hold on social order by using the paganism of our day to promote the righteousness of our faith, unwilling to step on toes or act as honestly with ourselves as the Sades of our day.
As Christians we must realize what Sade and the many liberal elitist understand: we have nothing in common with them because they have nothing in common with The God for which we serve.
If the Sades of our day are willing to openly show their perverse ways, we as Christians too must be as honest with ourselves by showing just as Sade did in antithesis that we cannot as George W. Bush has stated he will do unite political ideals in our nation and make compromising stands.
Let us not forget that God is the creator of law and He chooses what will be deemed both good and evil. The sad reality that we face today is a timid Christianity that is not being honest with itself by its unwillingness to stand for the truth of Gods law. In distinction to that, we have an ever growing army of Sade like liberals that are more than willing to be honest in their utter hatred for the law of God. It is time for Christians to be honest with ourselves and admit that we can only relate to political parties or ideals as they are obedient to the law of God.
As Christians we can learn a lesson from Sade, we too must realize that we have nothing in common with Sade, just as he realized that he had nothing in common with us. The problem in our day is not the Sades who are unabashed about their beliefs; the problem is the Christians who are ashamed of almighty God and his created law order.
